The NT Domain Directory is the Security Account Management (SAM) database maintained on the domain server. Its purpose is to maintain a list of user accounts and passwords used for login authentication. NT maintains several other directories including the Registry, WINS and DHCP that contain information on network resources and handle other naming service needs.
